Rare Wedgwood Jasperware Dancing Hours Plate Collectible, Goddess Io, Ltd Ed Box

  

This original collector plate is entitled. And features a white-bas relief of the Greek Goddess of the same name. This plate depicts Io - the Third Goddess/Maiden from John Flaxman's neoclassical frieze.

The crisp white relief is hand-applied by Wedgwood ornamentors onto the soft matte pale-blue Jasper body, creating beautiful depth and contrast. Danbury Mint commissioned a six-plate collection, each devoted to one dancing Goddess/Maiden -First through Sixth Maiden - mirroring the six figures in John Flaxman's 1778 original composition.

The "Dancing Hours" collection invites you into a world of timeless classicism. Inspired by classical friezes, these figures embody the ceaseless flow of time, transformed into an elegant dance. Approximately 6 1/2 inches in diameter and is stamped. The plate has been previously owned in very good condition and is first quality.
