The round tray reproduces the decoration and wording of the slave medallion modelled in 1787 by Hackwood from the seal of the Slave Emancipation Society. Josiah Wedgwood was himself an active supporter of the Society and produced several hundreds of the medallion. Many were made in black on white Jasper but other combinations were also produced. The dish has been previously owned but is first quality and in very good condition.
The dish is stamped on the base "Wedgwood Made in England". A very similar piece was featured on the Wedgwood Documentary programme.
