Black on Cane Jasperware Slavery Dish. The round tray reproduces the decoration and wording of the slave medallion modeled in 1787 by Hackwood from the seal of the Slave Emancipation Society. Josiah Wedgwood was himself an active supporter of the Society and produced several hundreds of the medallion. Many were made in black on white Jasper, but other combinations were also produced.
The dish has been previously owned but is good quality and in very good condition. There is a fleabite chip towards the bottom ofvthe dish which is pointed out specifically in one of the photos with a pointer. The dish is stamped on the base Wedgwood. A very similar piece was featured on the Wedgwood Documentary program.
