WEDGWOOD Jasperware 1986 TRI-COLOR Christmas Plate THE ALBERT MEMORIAL. Issued in 1986 by Wedgwood as the 18th plate in their limited edition Christmas series. Produced in traditional pale blue jasper with a central scene in white and a holly leaf border in Portland Blue.

The word "Christmas" and the date 1986 are embossed on the pale blue background. This rare tri-color Christmas plate was produced for the then Managing Director of Wedgwood, Sir Arthur Bryan as a Christmas gift for family friends in a very limited quantity - approximately 50 plates. The back is inscribed (in gold). From the Bryans Arthur, Betty, Linda & Lawrence. This plate is in a rare color combination and with the Sir Arthur Bryan provenance it would make a great addition to any Wedgwood collection. You may never see another one of these offered for sale again. THE ALBERT MEMORIAL was commissioned by Queen Victoria to commemorate her late consort, Prince Albert. It is one of the grandest high-Victorian gothic extravaganzas anywhere. Far better know is the Royal Albert Hall (seen in the background), opened by Queen Victoria in 1871. It is one of the world's leading concert venues, and the best known building within the cultural complex known as the Albertopolis. Queen Victoria married Albert, Prince of Saxe Coburg, in 1840. Albert died of typhoid in December, 1861, leaving the Queen an utterly broken-hearted and crushed widow of forty-two. She mourned his death, wearing black and a widow's cap until her own death in 1901. Fully marked on the back: WEDGWOOD - MADE IN ENGLAND. UPDATE July 3, 2023: I just listed a taupe ("brown") 1985 Wedgwood Christmas plate from this same very limited series. Same inscription on the back.

It is quite rare to see ANY plates from this series listed for sale. It is even MORE rare to see two of these plates (1985 and 1986) on the market at the same time.

A serious collector should take this opportunity to acquire one or both while they have the chance. (no chips, cracks, or repairs).
