This is the top of the line dark cobalt blue jasper cheese dome and under plate that Wedgwood made in the late 19th century. As one can see from the photos, this is the cheese dome with the knob on top instead of the somewhat crude handle that was used on some of the Wedgwood cheese domes, making for a very elegant looking piece. This is the Wedgwood cheese dome that serious collectors of Wedgwood jasper have in their collection. This piece does not appear on the market very often. The under plate is marked with "Wedgwood" and "England" placing the period of manufacture between 1891 and 1908, making this a true antique.

The dome itself "rings" when lightly struck with one's knuckles, indicating that there are no cracks. The under plate does have some light staining, as can be seen in the photos. There is one small nick in the inner ring of the two rings on the under plate, which I have shown in the photos. The remainder of the piece is free from nicks and scratches.

The height of the dome is a little over eight inches. The diameter of the dome is a little over 8 1/4 inches. The diameter of the under plate is twelve inches. The total height with the dome sitting on the under plate is a little over nine inches.

Truly an elegant and impressive piece of Wedgwood jasper, no serious Wedgwood collection is complete without this cheese dome and under plate.
