I need to carry out some "de-cluttering" so, reluctantly, here for sale is my lovely Wedgwood "Dancing Hours" bowl, which measures just over 10.0 ins, or 25.5 cms, in diameter; and is 4.25 ins / 10.5 cms high (all measurements approximate). It is marked on the base "Wedgwood", "Made in England" , "X", "JR", "10" and 63. " I believe that the numbers "63 indicate that it was manufactured in 1963, making it around 55 years old. The quality of the jasperware is excellent and the applied decoration is both deep and detailed.
The design is generally attributed to John Flaxman Jr. Dating back to the 18th Century - although I understand it is based on a much older original. The bowl "rings" nicely when tapped with a fingernail. I note the green spot on the base (see picture), which may indicate that this was a "second", when manufactured. Subjectively, I can't see any obvious serious flaws to explain why it would be a second, but buyers can judge for themselves from the pictures, which form a key part of this listing.
The condition of the bowl is very good, with minor dirt marks, scuffs and age-appropriate wear. There are also occasional marks from manufacture which look like fingerprints. Again, please examine the pictures closely.
This is a lovely item and is keenly-priced to sell. Buyers are welcome to collect but, if posted, the bowl will be safely-packaged and will require a signature.
