Cane Jasperware Bacchanalian Boys Earred Plate. A Wedgwood cane jasperware earred plate with blue lines and detailed applique featuring a young Bacchus holding his thyrsus (fennel staff) whilst being held aloft.

Bacchus, the son of Jupiter, was the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility. He carried a pinecone-topped fennel staff, and was often followed by Satyrs (goat-footed mythical creatures) and Maenads (mad and demented women).

The plate features one of Lady Diana Beauclerk's famous Bacchanalian Boys designs, originally produced for Josiah Wedgwood in 1783. The display plate measures approximately 7 1/2 inches plus the ears and is impressed'Wedgwood Made in England' on the back.
