Second in The Museum Series - Diced Trophy Plate. This Jasper plate is based on an original, made at the Wedgwood factory of Etruria c. As Josiah named it, continues to be used in daily production at the Wedgwood factory.

Three-colour Jasper was one of this master potter's later developments; it was introduced to give a new enhancement to vases and other pieces produced in this fine-grained stoneware in the first part of the 1780s. The heavily ornamented bas-reliefs on the plate have been dextrously applied by hand. The centre cameo of Aurora, the Greek Goddess of the Dawn, was modelled by William Jackwood in 1773. Operating the Wedgwood engine-turning lathe to cut diced, fluted or other patterns into the clay body, demands the concentrated efforts of a highly experienced turner and his assistant. For some intricate designs, such as this plate, the lathe has to be turned slowly by hand. The plate is impressed on the back'Wedgwood Made in England' and in gold writing reads Museum Series - After an original 19th Century design incorporating a cameo of Aurora modelled by William Hackwood in 1778.
