Very Early SARAH SIDDONS Antique WEDGWOOD Jasper Ware PORTRAIT MEDALLION Plaque. Portrait medallion of SARAH SIDDONS, solid blue jasper, white relief.
She married an actor, William Siddons, in 1773. David Garrick engaged her to play at Drury Lane, where she appeared as Portia in 1775. This time she was an immediate success, and she remained at the top of her profession for the remainder of her career.
In 1803 she joined her brother, John Philip Kemble, at Covent Garden and remained there till her retirement in 1812, principally playing tragic parts for which her talents were best suited. Backside of medallion is impressed: WEDGWOOD. Measures 4" x 5 1/4" and loosely displayed in oval wood frame, as found. Displays beautifully, with absolutely no chips, nicks, or repairs. Old adhesive residue to backside, as shown. GUARANTEED TO BE ANTIQUE, AND NOT A MODERN REPRODUCTION. All items are from a smoke-free home.
