A wonderful and early Wedgwood inkwell. Dark blue dipped jasperware with classical sprig decoration.
Made In Staffordshire England by perhaps the greatest pottery in their history. The date of this pot could be mid-19th century. Perhaps the most intriguing and rare aspect to this pot is that it retains its original pen rest. A small insert that allows drips to be captured into the well when the pen wasn't in use. I have never seen a pottery inkwell that retained this accessory.
A great piece for the discerning collector. 2 3/4" in diameter and 1 1/2" deep. There is ink staining from use in the base. The item "Rare Dark Blue Wedgwood Jasperware Inkwell With Original Pen Rest" is in sale since Sunday, March 3, 2019.
