Rare Antique Wedgwood Black Basalt & Gilt QE1 Design Chamberstick Candlestick

  

A rare Wedgwood black basalt and gilt highlighted chamberstick style candlestick. It is made with four busts of Queen Elizabeth I supporting the sconce and also at the handle terminal.

The base has leaf forms with gilt accents and there is a holding cone for a snuffer. It is marked to the underside with the Wedgwood impressed mark. It also has the group of three letter codes for the date, this is a little difficult to distinguish, but if the first letter Y is correct for May the final letter is likely to be for 1863 (R). This fits in with the known production period for this item. It's a great find and a rare chance for the collector to obtain this lovely design. Very good order, light gilt wear.
