Jasperware has been produced by Wedgwood since the late 18th century, when Josiah Wedgwood wanted to create something to reflect the interest in the classical world, spurred on by the recent discoveries at Pompeii and Herculaneum. He came up with Jasperware, a smooth, hard stoneware, that can be coloured in different shades, and is instantly recognisable and appealed as much then as it does today. This beautiful plaque with a black basalt background depicts the ever popular dancing hours. It is framed in an antique wooden frame, with a velvet mount, and a hole in the back of the frame allows you to see the Wedgwood name and date mark. I believe the F mark, in conjunction with Made In England gives a date of 1929.
