Superb pair of early Wedgwood lavender blue'dipped' jasperware candlesticks, featuring mythological classical scenes in bas-relief. Marks to base are impressed'wedgwood', a potters mark and the letter A, indicating that they were made circa 1770 - 1860. Pencil markings, probably from the time of production, are still visible.

I have searched extensively online and have not been able to find any matching designs so I believe these are now rare. No chips, cracks or crazing of any kind.

All decoration seems to be intact, aside from a few barely noticeable hairlines on the lower scrolling which I honestly thought were part of the design until I compared them closely with the others. There are some small areas of very slight discolouration, very light scuffing, and two small'rubs' - one on the base rim of one candlestick, and one tiny one on the top rim.

However, these'rubs' look like they may be production flaws rather than later damage. All in all, the condition is very much better than the majority of similar age jasperware I have seen. Please see photos for details.

Width across base: 4 1/4 inches/10.75cm. If you have any questions, please let me know.
