The form of the Portland blue Jasper Icarus teapot has its origins in the early 19th century and features a central bar relief of Daedalus instructing his son Icarus how to fly. Daedalus made wings of feathers and wax but despite his warning, Icarus flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he plunged to his death in what is now know as the Aegean Sea.
