Rare Wedgwood Jasperware Commemorative Silver Jubilee Cigarette Jar. Boxed

  
This is a quite rare Cigarette Jar made in England by Wedgwood to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 in a Limited Edition of just 250. Dark Portland Blue Jasper relief portrait of HM plus the Royal Coat of Arms and lion heads on classic pale Blue Jasper relief. It stands 4 (10 cms) tall including the finial on the domed lid. The base is 3.5 (9 cms) in diameter.

It is in an excellent preowned undamaged condition. Unfortunately there is no certificate. The box is intact with what seems to be the original tissue. Josiah Wedgwood FRS "The Father of English Potters" introduced many new techniques to the pottery industry.

One of the most famous of all his inventions was Jasper ware which was perfected in 1774 and has been made continuously by Wedgwood using the original methods of manufacture for more than 200 years. Jasper ware is one of the most valued and sought after items of ornamental ware in the world and the hand-made element means that no two pieces will ever be precisely identical, which is part of the charm of the Wedgwood Jasper.
