Today we are thrilled to be offering for sale a beautiful and rare vintage Wedgwood lilac jasperwear "Sacrifice" bowl! The bowl features classic neoclassical Greek-inspired applied bas-relief detailing, with a scene of Greek maidens meandering in a tree garden carrying offerings while a maiden pours scent into a smoking incense burner. The piece is marked on the bottom "Wedgwood Made in England/H/80". The bowl presents beautifully and is in excellent vintage condition, with very minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. No chips, cracks or restorations.

This fabulous bowl, along with many other Wedgwood pieces, all came from the collection of a prominent old Providence family. Dimensions: 3-3/4" in height, 7-7/8" in diameter (at widest point). Josiah Wedgwood and Sons, commonly known as Wedgwood, is a fine china, porcelain, and luxury accessories company founded on 1 May 1759 by English potter and entrepreneur Josiah Wedgwood. The company is renowned worldwide for its' luxury Jasperware creations. Jasperware is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s.

Usually described as stoneware, it has an unglazed matt "biscuit" finish and is produced in a number of different colors, of which the most common and best known is a pale blue that has become known as Wedgwood Blue. Relief decorations in contrasting colors (typically in white but also in other colors) are characteristic of jasperware, giving a cameo effect. The reliefs are produced in moulds and applied to the ware as sprigs.

This elegant vintage console bowl is finely and intricately crafted and detailed.
